For gardeners tackling roses or other thorny plants, our rose pruning gloves are essential. These thorn-resistant gloves are crafted to shield your hands from painful pricks and scratches while still allowing the dexterity you need to handle delicate stems and branches.
Collection: Gardening Gloves
Gardening Gloves That Actually Hold Up to Real Garden Work
Most gardening gloves fail the same way: the grip wears through after a few sessions, the seams split at the fingertips, or the fit is so loose that delicate work becomes impossible. We have tested dozens of pairs on our flower farm in Loomis, California, and the gloves in this collection are the only ones we kept.
At Celtic Farm we use our gloves daily — for planting bulbs, transplanting seedlings, handling thorny stems, and working in both wet and dry conditions. If a glove did not perform through a full growing season on the farm, it did not make it into this collection.
What to look for in a quality gardening glove
The three things that separate a great gardening glove from a mediocre one are grip, dexterity, and durability. Grip matters most for wet conditions and tool handling. Dexterity determines whether you can do fine work — planting seeds, tying stems, removing spent flowers — without removing the glove. And durability separates a glove you replace every season from one you use for years. Our gloves are selected to excel in all three.

Gardening Glove Buying Guide
The Master Gardener’s Guide to Gardening Gloves
As a Master Gardener, I know that the right pair of gloves is your most important tool, and heavy duty gardening gloves dont fit all your needs. Whether you are pruning roses in Loomis or weeding a vegetable patch, your gloves should act as a second skin—protecting you from thorns and blisters while maintaining the dexterity needed for delicate seedling work.
Finding Your Perfect Fit The biggest mistake most gardeners make is wearing "one-size-fits-all" gloves. For high quality gardening gloves, you need to match the material to the task:
-
Genuine Leather (Goatskin/Cowhide): Best for heavy-duty tasks like clearing brush or handling wood. Naturally puncture-resistant and durable.
-
Nitrile Coated: Ideal for wet soil and general weeding. They offer superior grip and keep your hands dry without losing "feel."
-
Gauntlet Style: Essential for rose pruning or handling berry briars, these extend up the forearm to prevent scratches.
Durability & Care Our best gardening gloves are selected for their longevity. To extend the life of your leather gloves, always shake out the dirt and let them air dry away from direct heat to prevent the leather from cracking.
Gifting Tip: Gardening gloves are a staple in any garden tool set. If you are putting together gardening gifts for women or men, starting with a premium pair of gloves ensures the recipient can get to work comfortably on day one.
